The Problem with Tags

Tags fail because they force you to act like a librarian while you are trying to be a thinker. They demand categorization before the thought has even fully formed. Usually, tags sit disconnected from the specific sentence that actually matters.

Thinking in Plain Text

Instead of a sidebar full of drafts, Siltmark uses Seals. You don’t categorize the whole file; you mark the specific line that matters, right as you type it.

By using standard ASCII characters at the start of lines, you replace complex database queries with simple text search.

  • Want to see your insights? Search for ”! “.
  • Want to see open questions? Search for ”? “.

The seals are standard ASCII. They don’t break. They don’t require updates. If your favorite app shuts down tomorrow, your workflow survives because grep and Ctrl+F will outlive us all.
